(Detroit).- The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has taken decisive action against 11 illegal offshore gambling websites that were found to be unlawfully targeting Michigan residents. The websites, which include Shazam Casino, Highway Casino, SlotsRoom, Ruby Slots Casino, Las Atlantis Casino, Bet Big Dollar Casino, Blood Moon Casino, Spinfinity, Jumba Bet Casino, Grand Eagle Online Casino, and DogsFortune, were offering unlicensed gambling services in direct violation of Michigan law.

In response to these violations, the MGCB has issued cease-and-desist letters to the operators, directing them to immediately halt their illegal activities. These platforms, operating without the necessary state-issued licenses, were found to be violating a range of regulations, including the Lawful Internet Gaming Act, the Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act, and the Michigan Penal Code.

Commitment to Protecting Michigan’s Gaming Integrity: “The Michigan Gaming Control Board remains fully committed to ensuring a fair, safe, and lawful gaming environment for all Michigan residents,” said MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams. “Our actions today underscore our unwavering dedication to holding illegal operators accountable. Shutting down these unlicensed platforms is critical not only to maintaining the integrity of Michigan’s regulated gaming industry but also to protecting residents from predatory practices and unreliable gambling experiences.”

The Threat of Unregulated Platforms

The illegal gambling websites in question offer various payment methods, including credit cards, PayPal, and cryptocurrencies, to lure Michigan players into risky gambling environments. However, these platforms engage in deceptive practices, including withholding winnings and imposing excessive wagering requirements. Many players have reported that they are required to wager their deposits multiple times before being allowed to access their winnings, a practice that is not only unethical but also in violation of Michigan’s legal protections for gamblers.

In addition to financial risks, these illegal platforms also fail to adhere to state standards for responsible gaming, consumer protection, and data security, leaving users vulnerable to fraud, identity theft, and other financial dangers.

A Clear Warning to Offshore Operators

The cease-and-desist letters sent to these operators serve as a clear warning to others attempting to bypass Michigan’s established gaming regulations. The MGCB has given the operators 14 days from receipt of the letter to cease their illegal operations. If these illegal platforms fail to comply, the MGCB will escalate the matter and pursue legal action in partnership with the Michigan Attorney General’s Office.

How Michigan Residents Can Protect Themselves

The MGCB is urging Michigan residents to exercise caution when engaging with online gambling sites and to verify the legitimacy of any platform before participating. Only authorized operators licensed by the state of Michigan are allowed to offer legal iGaming services within the state. To help residents distinguish between legal and illegal operators, the MGCB maintains a list of approved online gaming providers on its official website at Michigan.gov/MGCB.

Residents who suspect illegal gambling activity are encouraged to report it immediately by calling the MGCB hotline at 1-888-314-2682 or by emailing MIGamblingTip@michigan.gov.

The MGCB’s Ongoing Relentless Efforts to Safeguard Michigan’s Gaming Market

The Michigan Gaming Control Board continues to monitor the online gaming landscape to ensure that all operators within the state comply with the highest standards of consumer protection, fairness, and security. These efforts are crucial to maintaining the integrity of Michigan’s gaming environment and ensuring a safe, transparent, and trustworthy experience for all residents.
